Transition from Teeball to Softball

Junior softball is available for both boys and girls, and begins at an Under 14s level. Despite the older age bracket, players of a primary school age can comfortably play at this level of juniors, particularly if they have a background in Teeball already. Juniors softball is typically played on a Friday night, so for those players who wish to play both Teeball and softball, this is ideal. Likewise, for those players who have dipped their toes into moving ball sports with Machine Pitch, a similar timeslot on a Friday night means they are able to transfer over to live pitching the following season without too much disruption.

Similar to Teeball, at an Under 14s level, players are expected to be rotated into a variety of positions - both infield and outfield - to gain experience and develop skills in all areas. Coaches work with players closely at this age group to develop the skills that are new from Teeball - the underarm softball pitch, and the art of catching.

For information about the appropriate age to begin Softball, see our Pathways Guides at the Carine Cats Teeball page. For more information about our Junior Softball programs, contact the Softball Registrar at [email protected].
