Softball is a great sport for all ages and abilities. It combines game play that keeps you alert, increases your fitness, and improves the fundamental skills needed for a range of ball sports.
For many juniors, it is a natural progression from Teeball - the diamond is the same size, and about 2/3 of the size of a baseball diamond, and the rules are similar.
The summer Women's competition has a range of divisions to cater for every ability, so if you are looking to get involved to make new friends, or set a new fitness goal, softball is a friendly environment to do so.
For many men who play baseball during the summer, playing a winter softball season keeps the energy levels up, and the game play familiar, while for men who don't play baseball, it is a great opportunity to enjoy the sport in its own right.
Playing softball at Carine Cats is not an expensive exercise. Our fees are cheap compared to many other sports, such as baseball, cricket or football, and the club provides the majority of the gear needed to train and play - you really only need a glove and a helmet, and you are set!
We also offer payment plans for those people who need it, which can be sorted out confidentially at Registration.
Softball can be fun for all ages! We have children as young as 8 who are involved in our junior teams. Some children come through the Teeball pathway, and have experience with diamond sports, others come to softball with no prior knowledge - all are welcome and will be coached by our experienced coaching volunteers.
At 13 years of age, players in the Perth Softball League (PSL) are able to also play seniors if they are ready, with some playing both juniors and seniors. It is such a great sight to see those mum/daughter and dad/son combinations in some of our lower social grades!
Softball is a truly social team sport, with a competitive but fair atmosphere. At Carine Cats, we promote the social aspect, with many of our teams training together in a squad format - including our juniors and seniors.
Softball has a place for all fitness levels - whether you are keen to run around in the outfield, or be alert on a base (but perhaps not as agile as you once were!), we welcome you with open arms. The camaraderie that comes from a team game played for fun with like-minded people is also great for mental health.
Games range from 75 minutes to 90 minutes in length at the social level, so they don't take up an entire day of your weekend... and if you're over 40 years and want to try your hand at Vets, training isn't even a necessity!
Of course! With pathways in softball for boys through to district, state and national levels, softball is truly a sport for all genders.
During summer junior competitions in the Perth Softball League, there is a limit of three boys who can be on the diamond at any one time.
